On my wall in my home office I have a picture (above) of my late father who spent 30 year in the Royal Airforce, his brother was in the Royal Marines, their Father was in the Royal Engineers as was my maternal grandfather and on and on back through the generations.

So i guess my family has a long history with the military and armed conflict – I’m not aware of any relatives who actually died in conflict but I know of many over the generations who dedicated their life to serving their country. My generation was the first not to take that route; though I came very, very close.

So I’m dedicating this small fragment of the web to my father, his brother, their father and uncles and their fathers, etc. They made a sacrifice so I didn’t have to; hopefuly my children won’t either. I can imagine few things worse than sending your kids off to war.
