Twitter – a victim of their own success

As I’ve said before – I find blogging hard to sustain – it takes some real time investment to do well. Twitter on the other hand – provides the same cathartic release with little of the overhead.

But Twitter is *really struggling* these days – it was never great (in terms of availability) but lately it’s become significantly worse. In a way it’s a good job that they haven’t switched from consumer ramp to revenue yet because angry paying customers are far worse than angry free loaders (like me).

Which is interesting in itself – maybe this downtime is all part of the monetization plan ? Maybe they’ll start offering a premium service for a superior QOS. I might be interested if it was very cheap (like SMS cheap) and Twitter can actually demonstrate some credibility.

Well almost. My intention was to change the header image (above) with the seasons – but Spring in North Carolina has come and almost gone. I’d better start looking for a summer picture. Fall picture is here if you are interested.

Hmm, looks like this blog went belly-up sometime last night – sorry about that. Disabling all the plugins seemed to solve the immediate problem. Many thanks to DreamHost for their responsiveness.

Ecto Test

Every Mac / Blogger I know raves about Ecto – I’m surprised it’s taken me so long to give it a try. There’s very little wrong with the WordPress native editor but sometimes (I know it’s hard to believe) you’re not online when you have the inspiration.

I’ll try it for a week and if all works as expected – I’d be happy to shell out twenty buck or so (which IMO is a reasonable price for a piece of software like this.)

OK, looks like everything is working. This is the new home of my blog. My previous blog was hosted by my employer (Sun Microsystems) and used Roller. At some point I’ll post in some detail the differences between Roller and WordPress.
