Web Beans Alpha 2 is out !

Pete Muir (fellow Brit. with an incredibly plummy accent) tipped me off that he’s just released Alpha 2 of Web Beans (the reference implementation of JSR-299 : “Java Contexts and Dependency Injection”). Pete says that it’s about 80% complete – with only a couple of features missing. (Pete’s announcement, Release Notes, Download)
You’ll need JBoss AS 5 to run it in (download, getting started guide). If this is all new to you – I collected some useful links for Web Beans / JCDI here.
Since my last post on Web Beans – the specification has changed name – it’s now called “Java Contexts and Dependency Injection”, according to Gavin (the spec. lead) the name changed to :
… better reflect the fact that the focus of 299 is the definition of services that apply to all EE component types, rather than the creation of a new component model
The reference implementation and JBoss’ implementation will continue to use the Web Beans name which is great because I can say that without asphyxiating.
