This is the second home of my blog. The first, maintained by my previous employer (Sun Microsystems) I started in 2004 and is hopefully still here.
I’m a Brit. currently living in North Carolina with my Wife, 2 young kids and 2 cats. Before that we spent 6 years in California. For the most part I grew up in England but I’ve also lived in Malta and Cyprus and have traveled a fair bit* in between.
I generally describe myself as a “recovering engineer” and currently work for the JBoss Division of Red Hat as the Director of Product Management for the JBoss EAP (Enterprise Application Platform). I’ve worked in the software business for almost 20 years - more than half of that time as a developer / consultant. My professional profile is kept reasonably up to date on LinkedIn and you can see my public photo stream on Flickr. I also Tweet from time to time. Through the magic of the interweb you can subscribe to me through friendfeed.
I’m interested in virtually any activity that involves getting outdoors (climbing, kayaking, mountain-biking, paragliding) but work and family commitments limit me to playing soccer once a week, golf once a month and running when I can.
You can mail me at sharps at softwhere dot org.

* the British are known for many things including making gross understatements. eg. “it’s just a scratch” might mean “my leg was just torn off at the kneecap”. This is important as it plays a big part in British humour - which many think is actually much better than British food.
